We spent a day of learning and cultural exchange through traditional craftsmanship and sake.
On March 8th, following our successful tour in Gunma, we organized a one-day cultural experience in Saitama Prefecture, commissioned by Japan’s National Tax Agency.
This time, we were joined by 13 Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) from countries including the United States, Canada, and the Philippines, currently stationed in Saitama.
Our first stop was Isami Corporation, a long-established manufacturer of traditional tabi (Japanese split-toe socks). After observing the production process at the factory, participants had the chance to try their hand at the final finishing steps. Everyone was astonished to learn that 100-year-old German sewing machines are still essential to the process, and that several spares are kept on hand just in case. It was a fascinating reminder that sometimes, the most effective solutions are not new, but time-honored.
In the afternoon, we visited Yokota Sake Brewery for a guided tour and sake tasting. The Mayor of Gyoda City graciously welcomed us with a special greeting. The highlight was a fun sake tasting quiz with five different types of sake. Using hints like aroma and color, some participants managed to guess correctly and won bottles as prizes. Many of the attendees were new to sake, which sparked lively conversations and a friendly, inquisitive atmosphere.

We will continue to create experiences that are not only memorable but also inspire people to share their discoveries with others.
